A realistic look at how pages rank on Google, which steps matter most for a new Indian site and which promises to ignore.

The 30 second version
- No one can promise a first position on Google. Be careful with anyone who does.
- Ranking mostly comes from useful pages, a fast and clean site, and trust from other sites.
- New websites need patience: months, not days.
- A tidy checklist done consistently beats any single trick.
How Google decides the order
Google tries to show the page that best answers a search. It looks at how well your page matches the words and meaning of the search, how helpful and original the content is, how the page works on a phone, and whether other sites consider you worth linking to. The exact recipe is not public and it changes, which is why you should be careful with confident claims.
A ranking checklist you can follow
- One clear topic per page
- A title that says what the page is about, in natural words
- Original content with real details, not copied text
- Pages that open quickly on mobile data
- No broken links or confusing menus
- A secure address (https)
- Your contact details, so visitors trust you
- A few good links from related sites
Step by step for a new site
- Make a list of the searches you want to appear for.
- Build one page per search intent, not one page for everything.
- Write the page as if explaining to a customer in person.
- Add a few useful images, with short descriptions.
- Link related pages to each other.
- Add the site to Google Search Console and submit the sitemap.
- Check once a month which searches show your pages and fix the weak ones.
What does not work
A few common promises are worth knowing about.
| Claim | Reality |
|---|---|
| "Rank number 1 in 7 days" | Nobody controls this |
| "10,000 backlinks for a small fee" | Often junk and risky |
| Repeating a keyword endlessly | Reads badly and can hurt |
| Copying a competitor's page | Original pages are preferred |
| Buying traffic to lift ranking | Not a reliable ranking method |
Speed and mobile matter
Most searches in India happen on phones, often on average connections. Compress images, avoid heavy sliders and test your pages on an ordinary mobile. A slow page loses visitors before Google even matters.
Frequently asked questions

Can I pay Google to rank organically? No. You can run paid ads, which appear separately, but organic ranking cannot be bought.
Why did my ranking drop? Common causes are competitors improving, site problems, outdated content or algorithm updates. Check Search Console for errors first.
Do social media followers help ranking? Not directly. Social can bring visitors and links, but follower counts are not a known ranking factor.
