On X, formerly Twitter, impressions are counted when a post is shown on someone's screen. Try 100 free X impressions here on any public post, using only the post link.

An impression is counted each time a post appears on a screen, in the home timeline, in replies, in search or on a profile. X shows this number publicly under each post as views, with a small bar chart icon. The post owner sees more detail in post analytics, such as profile visits and link clicks.

Impressions are not the same as engagements. A like, reply or repost is an engagement. Someone can see a post without interacting with it, so impressions are usually much higher than likes. On X, the public view number and impressions refer to the same idea.

Post analytics also show engagement rate, which is engagements divided by impressions. Watching that rate over several posts tells you which kind of post your readers respond to, which is more useful than chasing the view number alone.

The two free impression trials

After you claim

Impressions start soon after you claim, usually within minutes, and show in the view count under the post. Keep the post public and do not delete it until delivery is done.

X can update view counts in batches, so the number may move in steps. If it settles a little lower, the Refill trial can be topped up within its refill period.

Earning more impressions on X

Impressions on X come from the For you and Following timelines, replies and search. Thoughtful replies to larger accounts in your topic put your name in front of their readers. Threads let you share a full idea in steps, and a strong first post decides whether people open the rest.

Post when your audience is online, use images or short videos, and keep text easy to scan. Hashtags matter less on X than they used to, so use one or two at most. Join relevant Communities and reply to people who reply to you.

Pin your best post to your profile so new visitors see it first. Quote posting with your own take on news in your field is another way to join a conversation that people are already reading.
