Get more Instagram comments: ways to start a conversation
Practical ways to turn quiet posts into real conversations, from better questions to replying fast, plus where a small boost fits.

The 30 second version
- Comments come from posts that ask something easy to answer, not from posts that only show something.
- Reply to every early comment within the first hour or so, because replies invite second comments.
- Keep questions narrow: "which colour, A or B?" gets more answers than "thoughts?".
- A small boost can make a post look less empty, but it cannot make strangers want to talk.
Why some posts get comments and others stay silent
People comment when it costs them almost nothing and when they feel they have something to add. A post that says "new collection out now" gives nobody a reason to type. A post that says "which of these two kurtas should go on sale first?" gives everyone a reason.
If you want to get more Instagram comments, start by looking at your last ten posts. Count the ones that ended with a clear question. Most small accounts find the number is close to zero.
Ask better questions
A good question has three qualities: it is easy, it is about the viewer, and it has a clear answer.
| Weak prompt | Stronger prompt |
|---|---|
| What do you think? | Chai or coffee while you scroll this? |
| Tell me in the comments | Drop the city you are watching from |
| Like if you agree | Which of these 3 would you pick first? |
Notice that the stronger versions are about the person, not about you. Choices, fill in the blank and "this or that" formats work well because nobody has to think hard.
Put the hook in the first line
Most people read only the first line of a caption before deciding whether to stay. Put the question or the tension there, and keep the details below. In a Reel, say the question out loud in the first few seconds and also put it on screen as text.
Where a boost fits, and where it does not
A post with zero reactions can feel dead to a new visitor. A small amount of added activity, such as a free trial like or comment, can remove that empty look while you work on the real thing. You can try the free Instagram like trial once to see how a post looks with some activity. If you want custom comments written for a post, see the Instagram services page, where options and prices are shown in rupees and change with the live catalog.
Be clear about the limit. Purchased or trial numbers do not create genuine discussion, and platforms prohibit artificial engagement, so treat any boost as a small supporting step. The real work is a post worth replying to.
A simple weekly routine
- Monday: post one question based post.
- Wednesday: post a Reel with a spoken question and on screen text.
- Friday: post a "this or that" in Stories and carry the result into a post.
- Daily: spend ten minutes replying and leaving thoughtful comments on accounts in your niche.
Leaving good comments on other accounts is underrated. Genuine, specific comments bring people to your profile, and some will comment back. For more on the basics see the Instagram marketing guide.
Measure what matters
Do not track only the total. Track comments per post, replies you gave, and how many commenters were new people. If the same five friends comment every time, the question is not reaching beyond your circle. Test different post types for a month and keep what works.
Frequently asked questions
How many comments should a post get? There is no fixed number, because it depends on your audience size and niche. Compare a post with your own previous posts and aim to improve slowly.
Do comments help reach? Conversation is generally a good sign for a post, but nobody outside the platform knows exactly how much weight it carries. Focus on being useful and replying.
Is it okay to ask followers to comment? Yes, if you ask a specific and easy question. Avoid asking for comments in exchange for a reward in a way that feels spammy.
Can I buy comments? Custom comments exist as a service, but they are added activity, not real discussion. Use them sparingly and read the service page for details.
Should I delete negative comments? Remove abuse and spam. Reply politely to fair criticism, since it shows other visitors that you listen.
Not sure which one fits? Compare every service or ask us.
